Dominique Baron Bonarjees Performance Cleaning ROTA (»rota« bedeutet etymologisch »Rad«) stellt eine scheinbar profane, aber äußerst wichtige Komponente innerhalb des Zusammenlebens in einer WG heraus – das Putzen und seine tieferliegende soziale und psychologische Bedeutung. Sie transportiert mittels einer scheinbar banalen Tätigkeit und deren Eigenschaft des zirkulären Wiederholens eine dieser innewohnende Botschaft: Die Künstlerin eignet sich Territorium an, gibt es wieder frei, schafft Chaos, dann wieder Ordnung und hinterlässt Spuren ihrer vermeintlich ephemeren Präsenz. Unter Einsatz des Geschirrspülers der Galerie, als Zeitgeber und Mitarbeiter in diesem Kreislauf, verwebt ROTA Mensch/Belebtes, Technik/Lebloses, Vergangenheit/Gegenwart und Rhythmen. Sie untersucht die kaum oder nicht wahrnehmbaren Resonanzen, die im tagtäglichen Austausch innerhalb geselliger Räume entstehen. Reinigung, oder besser: das Putzen ist hier ein Weg, um zu »deterritorialisieren«, Spuren zu entfernen beziehungsweise aufzuzeigen.

Cleaning ROTA. Dominique Baron Bonarjee`s Performance Cleaning ROTA (»rota« is Latin for »wheel«) puts the focus on a seemingly mundane, but effectively crucial part of life in a flat share: cleaning and its deeper social and psychological meaning. Via a banal act and its characteristic of circular repetition she transfers a message inherent to this practice: the artist claims a territory, lets go, creates chaos, then establishes order again and leaves traces of her seemingly ephemeral presence. By making use of the gallery’s dishwasher as a timekeeper and collaborator in this cycle, ROTA links people/living things, technology/inanimate objects, past/present and rhythms. She explores resonances that are hard or impossible to perceive, which surface in the daily exchanges within communal spaces. Here the act of cleaning is is a way to »deterritorialise«, to remove traces or respectively bring them to light.

Dominique Baron-Bonarjee »Where territorialization is achieved by leaving traces, possible heterotopias, erasure deterritorializes the space once again, momentary utopias. Continuous repetitions of this cycle could announce the possibility of the post-Other, or in fact be instrumental in manifesting post-Otherness. Through this cycle, space itself becomes subject to rhythms of creation and de-creation and thus temporalized as opposed to territorialized, through the temporary framings of chaos, which in the context of the flatshare interrogate the term ‘homeliness’: cleaning, normally an action connected to domesticity, within the realm of post-Otherness becomes a way to face the ‘unheimlich’ as it continuously breaks down the homeliness of the familiar (»as long as we can remain convinced by the taken-for-granted appearance of life, we create the impression of ground, covering over the uncanniness of existence.« Greg Madison ‘Existential Migration’).«
