Eine Performancewoche von Abrie Fourie im Rahmen von UP (Unsustainable Privileges), kuratiert von Bonaventure Soh Bejeng Ndikung und Solvej Helweg Ovesen
Abrie Fourie verwandelt die Galerie Wedding in ein Atelier, das den vorbeigehenden Leuten zum Besuch offen steht. Der aus Südafrika stammende und in Berlin lebende Künstler setzt sich während der Performancewochen mit dem Thema der (unhaltbaren) Privilegien auseinander, indem er poetische Erkundungen mit Worten, Redewendungen und Bildern vornimmt. Wie bei unangekündigten Atelierbesuchen, erfährt man nicht im Vorhinein, woran der Künstler gerade arbeitet. Den vorbeigehenden Besucher*innen bleibt nicht anderes, als sich von dem aktuellen Geschehen überraschen zu lassen.

Abrie Fourie transforms the space of Galerie Wedding into an artist’s studio, that is open to everyone who passes by. Within the performance week the southafrican born and berlin based artist will deal with the issue of (unsustainable) privileges by investigating them through words, phrases and images. Similar to an unnanounced studio visit, you won’t know beforehand what the artist is working on the moment you come by the space. The visitors will have no choice but to be surprised by the current events.

Abrie Fourie, geboren 1969 in Pretoria/Südafrika, lebt seit 2007 in Berlin. Er hatte bereits zahlreiche Einzelausstellungen u. a. in Johannesburg, New York, Kapstadt, Berlin und Wien. *** Abrie Fourie was born 1969 in Pretoria, South Africa, and moved to Berlin in 2007. He has had several solo exhibitions for example at the Johannesburg Art Gallery, the Museum for African Art, New York and the Forum d’art contemporian FAC, Sierre, Switzerland and also received the inaugural Africa Center Spier Contemporary Award, Cape Town, South Africa. full CV_Abrie Fourie
