Performance von Herma Auguste Wittstock

In Anlehnung an Marina Abramovics berühmte Performance »THE ARTIST IS PRESENT – THE HARDEST THING TO DO IS CLOSE TO NOTHING« wird die Künstlerin und ehemalige Meisterschülerin von Marina Abramovic Herma Auguste Wittstock eine dreistündige Performance in der Galerie Wedding aufführen.

Ihre Arbeiten basieren auf Performance-Kunst, zumeist Live-Performances oder Living-Installations, aber auch Video- und Film-Performances und performative Malerei. Wittstock stellte unter anderem schon bei der Biennale in Helsinki,  dem National Museum Reina Sofía in Madrid, dem Le Générateur in Paris, dem Theatre Works in Singapore, der Biennale di Venezia, dem Ex Teresa Arte Actual in México, dem X-Space in Toronto, dem Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, dem PAC Milan, dem P.S.1 in New York, dem Fridericianum in Kassel, den Kunst-Werken in Berlin und dem Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin aus.
Wittstock sagt über ihre Kunst, dass Menschen, Dinge und Räume ihre eigene Logik haben. Jede Situation kann eine Performance sein, so wie Wittstock selbst eine Performance ist. Alles kann Kunst sein oder zu Kunst werden. Wittstock versucht das Alltagsleben zu vereinfachen und es in einen neuen Kontext zu stellen. Sie spielt mit dem Zusammenhang zwischen Zeit und Konzentration, Grenzen des Publikums und ihren eigenen mentalen und physischen Grenzen, Energie und neuen Wegen, Stärke und Schmerz. Der Ort an dem ihre Kunst stattfindet ist von großer Bedeutung und wird oft mit in ihre Arbeit einbezogen.

Herma Auguste Wittstock ist 1977 in Peine, Niedersachsen geboren. Heute lebt sie in Berlin und arbeitet weltweit.

Referring to the famous piece of Marina Abramovic »THE ARTIST IS PRESENT – THE HARDEST THING TO DO IS CLOSE TO NOTHING« the artist and former student of Marina Abramovic Herma Auguste Wittstock presents a three hours performance at Galerie Wedding – Raum für zeitgenössische Kunst.

Wittstock’s works are based on performance art, mostly live performances or living installations, but as well she works at video- and film performances and performative paintings. Wittstock has exhibited at  Biennale Helsinki, National Museum Reina Sofía Madrid, Le Générateur Paris, Theatre Works Singapore, Biennale di Venezia, Ex Teresa Arte Actual México, X-Space Toronto, Van Gogh Museum Amsterdam, PAC Milan, P.S.1 New York, Fridericianum Kassel, Kunst-Werke Berlin and Irish Museum of Modern Art Dublin.
About her art Wittstock says that people, things and spaces have an inner logic. Every situation can be a performance, as well as she is a performance herself. Everything may be art or can become art. Wittstock tries to simplify everyday life and puts it into a new context. She’s playing with the context between time and concentration. She explores the audience’s and her own limits – between strength and pain. For Wittstock it is important to use the energy of her performance and to pass these energy to the audience. The space her piece is taking place is often as an important part of the performance included in her works.
Herma Auguste Wittstock was born 1977 in Peine, Niedersachsen, Germany. She lives in Berlin and works in the whole world.
