english version:

Al Sol. Andrés Galeano is a disciplined collector of analog amateur photographs and owns an archive of more than 10,000 pictures. Among other places, he sources his pictures on flea markets in Wedding. He looks for and finds recurring motifs that constitute a new image when they are presented together. The work Al Sol, which is on view at the exhibition, shows various pictures of people sunbathing. The photos date mostly from the 1950s/60s; apparently this was a popular subject at the time – the Instagram of the Sixties? At the site of the exhibition not only the people depicted but also the photos themselves are exposed to the sun. They illustrate the interplay of creation and destruction. By letting the photos slowly fade in the sun, Galeano talks about the change of the »Zeitgeist« in terms of self portrayal and the body. How are bodies constructed socially and culturally? How and by whom are they observed?

english version:

Last Barometz Collection (Hydra Plantation Radio). Nathalie Mba Bikoro goes looking for traces of forgotten or ignored colonial history in Wedding. She searches the neighbourhood for plants that were originally imported from the German colonies for use as movie-props. The plants act as a metaphor for the evolution and the historic remnants of displacement in the area and tell their own post-colonial history of uprooting, influenced by the incessant processes of urban change, on Hydra Plantation Radio. They become living monuments. How can living memories appearing as sounds become records of a changing environment? What do these sounds and voices tell us of growing diversity and the history of immigration?

english Version:

Benjamim’s Kitchen. Marisa Benjamim expands the exhibition space of Galerie Wedding by turning the usually restricted back room/the gallery kitchen into Benjamim’s Kitchen – a spatial installation that is a garden, a site of memory and a petal laboratory. Her longterm exploration and artistic interest in falling leaves (in drawings) and edible flowers and petals (in performances), her history, its depiction and use as well as the kitchen as a social space represent the focus of the artist’s work. The architecture of the gallery is reminiscent of a greenhouse and offers a suitable temporary home for her plants. Their culinary preparation is an important part of Bemjamim’s artistic practice. As a performative house warming present she thus invites to a tasting of her Edible Herbarium at the opening of the exhibition.

Zur Eröffnung probt Dayhews Band Luci Lippard allerdings öffentlich sechs Varianten von Still Life II.

english Version

Practice Room is a spatial installation that is open to be used by visitors, guests/bands and the »flatmates«. They can convene and try out and play (with) altered instruments. Lucinda Dayhew invites us to collective rehearsals. A practice room is usually secluded, it is not a public space. Songs and melodies are not final, the musicians have no audience yet. Dayhew allows us to experience the processes of collective music making, the harmonies and disharmonies from inside the rehearsal space – accessible to the »flatmates«, visitors and people passing by. Over the course of the exhibition she invites different musicians to rehearse in her Practice Room. These rehearsals take place at different times during the day and night, they are visible and audible from the outside, but they are not public con- certs. At the opening Dayhew’s Band Luci Lippard will however rehearse six versions of Still Life II in public.

Vacancies!
Ten new »flatmates«, who have responded our open call for »Vacancies! In Post-Otherness-Flatshare« have been selected for the exhibition and will now move into the flat share/Galerie Wedding with their artistic ideas, concepts, works, objects, discursive strategies and performative approaches. The exhibition space – the »vacant« room – is turned into a space of possibilities, in order to create instances of »Post-Otherness« through imagination, inspiration, contradictions and disorder. In reference to the discourse surrounding the term »Post-Other«, as coined by anthropologist Regina Römhild, various practices or unacknowledged politics of urban everyday life will be brought to light in different ways.

In the context of the Vacancies! exhibition we explicitly understand “Post-Otherness” as the abundance and diversity of ways of life, of experiences and strategies, which in turn bear an (also inner) variety of artistic and social positions. The community in the exhibition space (as public) and within the flat share (as private) thus comes to stand for the negotiation of collective realities and Utopias, individual needs and demands, but also for the endurance of differences, disharmonies and contradictions. The exhibition as a whole creates a very particular social microcosm.

Exhibition: August 12 – September 24, 2016

Curated in the frame of POW (Post-Otherness-Wedding) by Kathrin Pohlmann and Julia Zieger

english version:

Cleaning ROTA. Dominique Baron Bonarjee`s Performance Cleaning ROTA (»rota« is Latin for »wheel«) puts the focus on a seemingly mundane, but effectively crucial part of life in a flat share: cleaning and its deeper social and psychological meaning. Via a banal act and its characteristic of circular repetition she transfers a message inherent to this practice: the artist claims a territory, lets go, creates chaos, then establishes order again and leaves traces of her seemingly ephemeral presence. By making use of the gallery’s dishwasher as a timekeeper and collaborator in this cycle, ROTA links people/living things, technology/inanimate objects, past/present and rhythms. She explores resonances that are hard or impossible to perceive, which surface in the daily exchanges within communal spaces. Here the act of cleaning is is a way to »deterritorialise«, to remove traces or respectively bring them to light.

As such the artist employs a wide range of media—selfportrait, performance, collages and video collage—to create a cultural space of references that reflect critically on the immediate society around her. There are two main conceptual starting points, which Funda considers as a jumping board in order to open up an artistic process. Social structure & cycle of life and death, bringing out compositions of opposites and against gridlocked principles. Breaking through intermediates spaces, building bridges, gathering contrasts in order to create something anew, utopian and sometimes even ironically.

Irrational Loop.

english version:

Irrational Loop. When Fadi al-Hamwi returned to the house of his parents in Damascus after several years of living in Europe, he noticed a change in a central object of the household. The rug at the entrance showed distinct signs of wear on its surface. Al-Hamwi’s long absence has not only made him aware of the transience of this familiar object, but also of the slow change of his own identity, which is likewise reshaped in other places. In everyday interactions, we often do not consciously perceive these changes ourselves. As a cast silicon replica, the rug undergoes a new transformation and Fadi al-Hamwi in this way brings the changing object of memory into a new temporary home.

We belong together. Marijana Radovic invites the visitors to enter what she considers her most private place – her laptop, a virtual space and her imaginary home. Personal content such as holiday snapshots, videos, a diary and personal no- tes, items we all store on our laptops, are here presen- ted to the public as obscure artefacts in a virtual exhi- bition space. The artist is present, too – as a woman of the world and a flaneur in digital spaces, into which she projects and imagines herself. Marijana Radovic removes the border between private and public and pursues her desire to belong and be part of everything and everywhere, to a club, a relationship, a flat share.

»We always believed that testimonies should come from the dead, but what about the living? are their testimonies not part of forming visible monuments? Are our voices signs of cannibalist processions of the fauna we are ingesting into our bodies?

Infusionstands. In its dependency on social structures, coincidences, backgrounds, demands and ways of life, the hybrid self is permanently instilled with new material – like a concentrated infusion. The Infusion stands produced for the exhibition by Funda Özgünaydin represent both hope and despair. They are a stubborn version of post-migrant ready mades, in which she makes apparent the diversity of the cultural self through everyday objects. In contrast to this, her Human-Animals – collages of movie snippets and 1920s softcore porn – combine humans and animals while taking her often ironic attitude toward ascriptions of identity to extremes: »We adjust somewhat to our environment. Beside of our sense of instinct, intuition, in addition to imitate, even subconsciously picking up and adapt certain aspects of lifestyle, looks and language, manners, arrangements and activities. Mixing these into visual language will create something new, outlandish and utopian.« (Funda Özgünaydin)

english version

L’ombra delle cose. (the shadow of things) The question of the meaning, necessity or even superfluousness of property is the subject Timea Anita Oravecz brings to the Post-Otherness flat share, and, from a marxist communal perspective, it is a most crucial aspect: making collective life together possible to begin with or, alternatively, impossible. She puts this issue right at the centre of the exhibition space, by building an installation of disused furniture found in the basement and storage space on site, effectively rendering the pieces useless while radically re-contextualising their bulkiness. Their apparent claim for room is symbolically lead ad absurdum by Oravecz through their sculptural »elevation« in limited space.

english version:

Kommen und Gehen. The fluent transition between delineation and openness. Surya Gied works with the principle of spatial division and explores its different functions, forms, colours and transformations. Her large-scale work made of drawings explores how physical and mental spaces can be divided from each other and how they can be brought together. She focuses on the desire for a room of one’s own, without loosing contact to other people (»being nearby«). In her transparent installation, that connects and divides inside and outside at the same time, the deep-seated desire or otherwise the Utopian ideal to share spaces in harmony with others, turns into the question of the moment when the private becomes public and the public becomes private. Gied’s work focuses on the visible and invisible structures of abstracted forms and fragments of space and architecture within the everyday life of society, in all its banality and poetry.

Livekonzert

16.09.2016 um 20 Uhr

(see english informations below)

Namosh Live is indeed a discharge of high energy. During his concerts this singing & performing and occasionally stand-drum-set playing musician uses his body and vocals as a medium and sculpts it like a material. Namosh transforms sounds into movements or, visa versa, forms sounds based on movements. The rhythm is grounded, his beat mainly electronicly produced. Occasionally his songs sound melodic and smooth. Since 2001 Namosh performs in various constellations in different venues: supporting Le Tigre in Volksbühne/Berlin, on tour with the performer and musician Angie Reed, in collaboration with the composer Peter Thomas.
Yet primarily, Namosh plays solo.

In 2004 Namosh‘ live dynamic was turned into a solo-album. The E-LP carried the title Namosh and was released solely on vinyl by Pale Music. The EP became a hit on the dance floor and opened up a club- tour from siberia to london, though spain. HIs first regular album Moccatongue appeared in 2006 (Bungalow Records). Moccatongue consists of contrasting, caffeinated moods and emotions: light and flexible songs are followed up by unwieldy and saturated ones. The electric tension is transformed in the physique pictorial. The effect of Cold Cream, the video, is both hot and frosty. It was too creepy for Music Television while the Maxi-Single appeared in the german dance charts top 20 in 2005. Simultaneously Namosh generates attraction and repulsion, closeness and distance. In his concerts he hits the hotspots between ice and fire – between coolness and heat.
