In der fortlaufenden Banquet-Serie lädt die Künstlerin Luiza Prado Gäste – insbesondere Angehörige lokaler und marginalisierter Gemeinschaften – zu Mahlzeiten ein, bei denen traditionelle brasilianische Gerichte mit pflanzlichen Zutaten zubereitet werden.

Die Künstlerin betrachtet die Zubereitung und das Teilen einer Mahlzeit als eine Form der kollektiven Performance. Vor dem Hintergrund der aktuellen Klimakrise, Umweltzerstörung und Überbevölkerung der Erde stellt sich Prado das Teilen von Überfluss und Ressourcen als eine Form radikaler, dekolonisierender Fürsorge und Zukunftsgestaltung vor. In ihrer Arbeit übt die Künstlerin Kritik an dem Streben nach endlosem Wachstum, das Körper und Ressourcen ausbeutet und Ursache der gegenwärtigen Krisen ist. Prados Perspektive auf soziale und wirtschaftliche Verhältnisse bezieht dabei die Situation von Menschen, Tieren und Pflanzen mit ein.

Luiza Prado ist eine brasilianische Künstlerin und hat selbst im Berliner Wedding gewohnt. Die Zutaten für die vegetarische Mahlzeit werden auf dem lokalen Genter Wochenmarkt gekauft und von der Künstlerin in der Galerie Wedding zubereitet.

Das Essen wird gratis an Passant*innen und Publikum auf dem Rathausvorplatz ausgeteilt, solange der Vorrat reicht. Eine Anmeldung ist nicht erforderlich.

Mit freundlicher Unterstützung von der Senatsverwaltung für Kultur und Europa, Fonds für Ausstellungsvergütungen und Ausstellungsfonds für Kommunale Galerien, sowie dem Bezirkskulturfonds. Das Programm „Existing Otherwise I Anders Existieren – For a New Politics of the Senses“ wird durch die Kulturstiftung des Bundes und von der Beauftragten der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien gefördert.

In this ongoing banquet series, artist Luiza Prado invites guests – especially members of local and marginalised communities – to meals where traditional Brazilian dishes are prepared with plant-based ingredients.

The artist considers the preparation and sharing of a meal as a form of collective performance. Against the backdrop of the current climate crisis, environmental destruction and overpopulation of the planet, Prado imagines the sharing of abundance and resources as a form of radical, decolonising care and future-making. In her work, the artist critiques the pursuit of endless growth that exploits bodies and resources and is the cause of current crises. Prado’s perspective on social and economic conditions includes the situation of humans, animals and plants.

Luiza Prado is a Brazilian artist and has herself lived in the Berlin district of Wedding. The ingredients for the vegetarian meal are bought at the local weekly Genter market and prepared by the artist at Galerie Wedding.

The food will be distributed free of charge to passers-by and the public on the Rathausvorplatz, as long as the supply lasts. Registration is not required.
