In diesen Zeiten, in denen Orte für Kunst und Kultur geschlossen bleiben müssen, laden wir Sie herzlich zu einer Ausstellung ein, die Sie beim Spazieren entlang der großen Fensterfront von SAVVY Contemporary besuchen können. Dabei werden durch Radio und Poesie all jene verbunden, die innehalten und hinschauen, atmen und zuhören. PROCESSING ARCHIVES zeigt Arbeiten und Prozesse, in denen sich die Künstlerinnen Afopefólúwa Òjó und Monaí de Paula Antunes wiederfinden, die momentan am Residenzprogramm Lagos-Berlin teilnehmen – eine Kollaboration zwischen Goethe Institut Lagos, Galerie Wedding, 16/16, ZK/U – Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik, und SAVVY Contemporary. Afọpẹ́fólúwa verbrachte die Monate ihres Residenzprogramms in Berlin, während Monai ihre Residenz in Lagos aufgrund der momentanen Lage virtuell gehalten hat.

RADIO GARDENING ist ein radiophones Ökosystem von Monaí de Paula Antunes, das verschiedenste Inhalte, Formate und Traditionen des Radiomachens innerhalb der materiellen Komplexität von Radio selbst zusammenbringt. Es wird auf einer der beiden Fensterfronten von SAVVY Contemporary installiert werden, dem Publikum von außen via Kurzwelle und Online-Streaming Zugang zu einer Radioumgebung ermöglichen und dabei verschiedene Ebenen der interaktiven Beteiligung ermöglichen.

Mit AN AFRICAN POET CRIES AT THE WIND stellt uns Afopefólúwa Òjó ihr aktuelles Projekt vor – den Versuch, eine Lese-Ökonomie für afrikanische Lyrik jenseits der Strukturen und Hierarchien von Verlegen und Kuratieren, die zwangsläufig das Leseverhalten beeinflussen, zu erschaffen. Im Projekt werden Kulturen des Archivierens, Lesens und Schreibens als veränderliche und mobile digitale Formen untersucht, die mittels Algorithmen übertragen und übersetzt werden können. Die Arbeit richtet ihr Hauptaugenmerk auf die Leser*innen und nicht auf Kontext oder Stil, um dabei einen Kanal für die Neugierde auf verschiedene Arten poetischer Werke zu schaffen, die von Afrikaner*innen auf dem Kontinent und in der Diaspora geschaffen werden. Ein autonomes System wird eine lokale Datenbank verwalten und über eine Webanwendung, die einen Open-Source-Zugang ermöglicht, Wege zur Verbindung mit dem Archiv ausstrahlen.

Die Ausstellung ist teil des Residenzprogramms Lagos-Berlin, organisiert vom Goethe Institut Lagos in Zusammenarbeit mit Galerie Wedding, 16/16, ZK/U – Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik, und SAVVY Contemporary.

In times of closed cultural spaces, we invite you to stroll by and see an exhibition presented in SAVVY Contemporary‘s big windows. Through radio and poetry we connect with those who pause and watch and breathe and listen. Processing Archives shows works and processes in which the artists Afopefólúwa Òjó and Monaí de Paula Antunes find themselves in while being part of the Lagos-Berlin residency programme – a collaboration between ZK/U, Galerie Wedding, Goethe Institut Lagos, 16/16 and SAVVY Contemporary. Afọpẹ́fólúwa Òjó has been based in Berlin these past months, while Monaí has had a virtual residence in Lagos.

RADIO GARDENING by Monaí de Paula Antunes is a radiophonic ecosystem, mixing heterogeneous content, formats and traditions of radio-making within radio’s own material complexity. It will be installed on one side of SAVVY’s window showcase giving public access from outside to a radio environment via FM and online, with different layers of interactivity.

WITH AN AFRICAN POET CRIES AT THE WIND Afopefólúwa Òjó will introduce us to a project she is currently working on – an attempt at creating a reading economy for african poetry outside of the structures and hierarchy of publishing and curation that inherently influence reading behaviours. The project manifests as an investigation in cultures of archiving, reading and writing as mutable and mobile digital forms which can be transmitted and translated algorithmically.
The work’s primary focus is on readers, not meaning, context or style, but rather looks to create a channel for curiosity around the different kinds of poetic works being created by Africans on the continent and in the diaspora. The project will materialize as an autonomous system that will manage a local database, and broadcast avenues for connecting with the archive via a web application enabling open source access.

The exhibition is part of the Lagos-Berlin residency programme by Goethe Institut Lagos in collaboration with ZK/U – Center for Art and Urbanistics Galerie Wedding, 16/16 and SAVVY Contemporary.
