Neues Jahresprogramm 2023/4

Die Galerie Wedding hatte schon immer einen multiplen Blick auf die postmigrantische Gesellschaft und Kunst, die sich aus Komfortzonen herausbewegt und auf neue Formen einlässt. In unserem neuen Jahresprogramm konzentrieren wir uns auf die allgemeine Multidimensionalität des zeitgenössischen Lebens und deren Ausdrucksformen: Polymorph Polyvalent Polyphon Polyam Polytheistisch.

Poly – bedeutet „viel, mehr und anders“. Flexibilität, Interdisziplinarität, Multitasking, Hustling und parallele Leben: Im globalen Westen haben wir uns bis dato beim Erlangen von Bildung und bei der Planung unserer Karriere und unseres Lebens vorwiegend darauf konzentriert, eine Sache gut zu machen (Spezialisierung), eine Person zu sein (Individuum) und eine Person zu lieben (Monogamie), darauf, eine optimale Form zu verfeinern (Minimalismus), usw. Dies alles könnte vielfach schnell in Monotonie oder / und eine Art Monokultur münden. Da Systeme, Natur, Institutionen und die Biopolitik jedoch im Zusammenbruch begriffen sind und die Gesellschaft sich nach den aktuellen Krisen und jüngsten Anforderungen neu zu formieren versucht, stehen wir vor der Herausforderung, unsere Kompetenzen und unser Leben zu verändern und uns vielfältiger und polyvalenter aufzustellen. Gesundheitliche, ökologische, beziehungsorientierte und militärische Krisen führen dazu, dass wir womöglich akzeptieren müssen, dass wir ein breites Spektrum von Beziehungsformen, von Handlungs- und Lebensweisen und auch von Nahrungsmittel- und Einkommensquellen brauchen, um uns den sich verändernden Gegebenheiten anzupassen und über die Runden zu kommen. 

Zusammenarbeit mit dem KINDL – Zentrum für zeitgenössische Kunst

Wir stellen uns in 2023 breiter auf! Die im Norden Berlins gelegene kommunale Galerie Wedding – Raum für zeitgenössische Kunst (Künstlerische Leitung: Solvej Helweg Ovesen) und das im Süden, in Neukölln befindliche KINDL – Zentrum für zeitgenössische Kunst (Künstlerische Direktorin: Kathrin Becker) weisen in ihrer konzeptionellen Ausrichtung viele Gemeinsamkeiten auf. Sie kollaborieren erstmalig „qu(e)er“ und polyzentrisch durch die Stadt. Beide Institutionen sind innerhalb diverser Nachbarschaften angesiedelt, wo sie jetzt in institutionellem Austausch ein „glokales“ und performativ sowie diskursiv orientiertes, innovatives Programm realisieren, welches gleichermaßen Raum für Diskurs/e, Kunstproduktion/en und Publikum bietet.

POLY-Ausstellungen 2023

Im Frühjahr (14.04. bis 27.05.2023) wird die Ausstellung „Ill Delights“ von Ania Nowak & Friends (kuratiert von Maja Smoszna) eröffnen, die einen Übergang vom Existing Otherwise | Anders Existieren 2021-2 in das POLY Programm bildet.

POLY als Jahresthema läuft dann in der Galerie Wedding unter differenzierten Ausstellungstiteln: „Polychrome“ von Thomias Radin (16.06. bis 26.08.2023), kuratiert von Malte Pieper; „Poly(e)motion“ / ACROSS Performance Festival (15.06. bis 17.06.2023), kuratiert von Solvej Helweg Ovesen, Nitsan Margaliot, Malte Pieper & Kathrin Pohlmann. Die Eröffnung von „Polymorph“ von Cibelle Cavalli Bastos (15.09. bis 18.11.2023) während der Berlin Art Week findet gleichzeitig zur Gruppenausstellung und zum Veranstaltungsprogramm „POLY. A Fluid Show“ (17.09.2023 bis 25.02.2024) im KINDL statt. Beide Ausstellungen werden von Solvej Helweg Ovesen kuratiert. In der Laufzeit der KINDL-Ausstellung eröffnet auch „Polyharmony“ von Nile Koetting (01.12.2023 bis 25.02.2024) in der Galerie Wedding, kuratiert von Nitsan Margaliot.

New Year Programme 2023/4

Galerie Wedding has always held space for plural views of post-migrant society and art that moves out of comfort zones and engages with new forms. In our new annual programme we focus on the general multidimensionality of contemporary life and its forms of expression: Polymorph Polyvalent Polyphonic Polyam Polytheistic.

Poly- means “much, more, and different”. Flexibility, multitasking, hustling, parallel lives. In the West we have focused  in our education and careers as well as our lives on being able to do one thing well (specialization), love one person (monogamy), refine one optimal shape (minimalism) etc. In many cases, all this could quickly lead to monotony or / and a kind of monoculture. However, as systems, nature, institutions and biopolitics are collapsing, and society is trying to reshape itself after the current crises and recent demands, we are faced with the challenge of changing our competences and our lives to become more diverse and polyvalent. Health, environmental, relational and military crises mean that we may have to accept that we need a wide range of forms of relationships, of ways of acting and living, and also of sources of food and income to adapt to changing circumstances and make ends meet.

Cooperation with the KINDL – Centre for Contemporary Art

We are expanding in 2023! The municipal Galerie Wedding – Raum für zeitgenössische Kunst (Artistic Director: Solvej Helweg Ovesen), located in the north of Berlin, and the KINDL – Zentrum für zeitgenössische Kunst (Artistic Director: Kathrin Becker), located in the South, in Neukölln, have many similarities in their conceptual orientation. For the first time, they collaborate „qu(e)er“ and polycentrically through the city. Both institutions are located within diverse neighbourhoods, where they now realise a „glocal“ and performatively as well as discursively oriented, innovative programme in institutional exchange, which offers space for discourse/s, art production/s and audience alike.

POLY Exhibitions 2023

In spring (14.04. to 27.05.2023), the exhibition „Ill Delights“ by Ania Nowak & Friends (curated by Maja Smoszna) will open, forming a transition from Existing Otherwise | Existing Differently 2021-2 into the POLY programme.

POLY as an annual theme will then run at Galerie Wedding under differentiated exhibition titles: „Polychrome“ by Thomias Radin (16.06. to 26.08.2023), curated by Malte Pieper; „Poly(e)motion“ / ACROSS Performance Festival (15.06. to 17.06.2023), curated by Solvej Helweg Ovesen, Nitsan Margaliot, Malte Pieper & Kathrin Pohlmann. The opening of „Polymorph“ by Cibelle Cavalli Bastos (15.09. to 25.11.2023) during Berlin Art Week will take place simultaneously with the group exhibition and event programme „POLY – On Multiformity and Multidimensionality in Contemporary Art“ (17.09.2023 to 25.02.2024) at KINDL. Both exhibitions are curated by Solvej Helweg Ovesen. During the run of the KINDL exhibition, „Polyharmony“ by Nile Koetting (08.12.2023 to 25.02.2024) also opens at Galerie Wedding, curated by Nitsan Margaliot.
