A Fairytale of Normalization

The current health care laid bare that capitalism’s promise of an ever more prosperous future for an ever-greater part of the world’s population simply does not hold. Return to the normality of dismantled welfare state, reduced social rights, the logic of capitalist profit maximization and liberalization and privatization of all and every area of life is neither possible nor desirable, and »new normality« touted by political elites only increases the tendency of repression through unprecedented surveillance, the militarization of the police and simultaneous suppression and criminalization of protests and manifestations of resistance. For cultural and artistic production, it is a chance for asserting its »system relevancy« at the core of social and ecological reproduction, to rethink artistic autonomy that seriously reckons with the waysthat the work of serving others has always been shaped by gender and race and posit it as a place where freedom and flight from the fatal dialectic of modern capitalism that changes freedom into voluntary coercion are imaginable.
