Movement Research | Testplatz Wedding

Für das Open Call basierte Projekt Movement Research | Testplatz Wedding werden acht performative Projekte gesucht, die im August/September 2021 als Performance-Reihe auf dem Rathausvorplatz dem Weddinger Publikum präsentiert werden. Das Projekt ist interdisziplinär ausgerichtet und lädt Künstler*innen aus Berlin, die mit diversen körperbasierten und performativen Formaten arbeiten ein, sich mit dem Thema “Anders existieren im öffentlichen Raum” zu beschäftigen.

Zum Projekt: Durch das Social Distancing und neue Existenzbedingungen, haben sich unsere Wege im öffentlichen Raum geändert. Wie existieren wir anders? Und wie verhandeln wir Nähe und Distanz neu? Wie bewegen wir uns miteinander? Wie können wir den Raum wieder für uns gewinnen? Wie können wir uns heutzutage versammeln und neue intime Beziehungen aufbauen?

Galerie Wedding existiert 2021 auch anders. Als Institution öffnen wir uns in diesem Jahr auf den uns umgebenden öffentlichen Raum (Rathausvorplatz), auf neue Zuschauer*innengruppen und eine junge Generation von Künstler*innen. Dabei werden neue Formate des kollektiven Bewegens, erprobt. Das Programm untersucht eine neue Politik der Sinne und die Wege des ‘Anders Existierens’ im heutigen pandemischen Zeitalter. Die Galerie Wedding verändert sich dabei und wird zu einem Zentrum für Movement Research (engl: Bewegungsrecherche oder -forschung). 

Der Rathausvorplatz befindet sich direkt vor der Galerie Wedding. Er verbindet unterschiedliche Straßen: Die Müllerstraße und den Leopoldplatz im Norden sowie Genter Straße im Süden, wie auch wichtige Bezirksinstitutionen, etwa das alte Rathaus, das Job-Center und die Schiller-Bibliothek. Der Platz gilt als städtischer Treffpunkt von lokalen Communities, die ihn tagsüber und nachts zum Verweilen, Entspannen und Feiern unter freiem Himmel nutzen. Movement Research | Testplatz Wedding

For the Open Call-based project Movement Research | Testplatz Wedding we are in search of eight performative projects that will be presented to a Wedding audience on the Rathausvorplatz. The performances will be part of a performance series taking place in August/September 2021. The project is interdisciplinary and serves as an invitation to Berlin-based artists working with diverse body-based and performative formats to investigate the topic of „existing otherwise in public space“.

Movement Research Jury: Solvej Helweg Ovesen (Artistic Director Galerie Wedding), Isabel Lewis (artist, choreographer, and co-curator of “Existing Otherwise”), Övül Ö. Durmuşoğlu (curator, professor at the UDK, and co-curator of “Existing Otherwise”), Malte Pieper (curator of the Open Call), Maja Smoszna (curator of the Open Call).

About the project: Through social distancing and new conditions of existence, our options in public space have changed. How can we exist otherwise? And how can we renegotiate proximity and distance? How can we move with each other? How can we reclaim space for ourselves? How can we, in this day and age, gather and build new intimate relationships?

In 2021, Galerie Wedding will also be “existing otherwise”. As an institution we will this year be opening up the public space that surrounds us (the Rathausvorplatz) to new groups of viewers and a young generation of artists. We wish to experiment with new formats of collective movement. The program explores a new politics of the senses and ways to “existing otherwise” in today’s age of the pandemic. Galerie Wedding is hereby changing and transforming into a Movement Research Center.

The Rathausvorplatz is located directly in front of Galerie Wedding. It connects different streets: Müllerstraße and Leopoldplatz to the north and Genter Straße to the south. It also links important district institutions, such as the old town hall, the Job Centre and the Schiller Library. The square is considered an urban meeting point for local communities who use it during the day and at night to linger, relax and celebrate in the open air.
