Die Galerie erhält ihre Räume zurück

Am 15. November 2021 endet die Doppelnutzung als Galerie und Sozialamt in den Räumlichkeiten der Galerie Wedding. 

Nach 1,5 Jahren geteilter Nutzung – vormittags Sozialamt und nachmittags Galerie – freuen wir uns, unser Publikum und Künstler*innen wieder in die Galerie einladen zu können. 

Nach einem Sommer mit vielen dynamischen Performances im Außenraum sind wir froh, für die Künstler*innen und das Publikum wieder in den Innenräumen der Galerie Platz zu haben. 

Die Galerie feiert die Wiedereröffnung mit einem Programm von Künstlerin und co-Kuratorin der Galerie Wedding, Isabel Lewis. Lewis hat den Ausstellungsdialog in 2021 als Partnerin maßgeblich mitgestaltet. Das von ihr eingerichtete, und mit Solvej Ovesen konzipierte “A Movement Research Center” erweitert sich nun als räumliche sowie malerische Umarmung des gesamten Ausstellungsraums. Die kommende Ausstellung INTIM/E wird gestaltet von Isabel Lewis und dem Künstler Dirk Bell, dabei entsteht in der Galerie Wedding ein Raum für freie Wandmalerei, live Interviews, Gemeinschaft, Austausch, choreografierte Begegnung und Zeremonien. Das Programm JUICE: Language Futures von Isabel Lewis probt in drei dialogischen Situationen neue Formate des Künstler*innengesprächs mit Nora Turato, nora chipaumire und Branden Jacobs-Jenkins.

Das Team der Galerie Wedding begrüßt die Nachricht der Rückgabe ihrer Räume mit großer Erleichterung und dankt allen beteiligten Künstler*innen für ihr Engagement und ihre Kreativität, die Ausdauer, Improvisationstalent und Mitarbeit bei der Entwicklung alternativer Formate in den letzten 1,5 Jahren während der Doppelnutzung. Ohne euch und unser neues sowie altes Publikum hätten wir nicht weitermachen können. Ausstellungen und Veranstaltungen wurden neu geplant, alternative Formate entworfen – die Galerie wird auch in Zukunft weiter den Außenraum und Rathausvorplatz bespielen. 

Das Sozialamt wird seine Sprechstunde im Walther-Rathenau-Saal, direkt neben der Galerie Wedding, weiterhin anbieten. 

Wir freuen uns, den gesamten Galerieraum jetzt wieder als kommunalen Ort für Visionen, Gesellschaftskritik und künstlerische Freiheit den Künstler*innen und Besucher*innen zur Verfügung zu stellen.

Galerie Wedding is granted full access to its spaces again 

On 15 November 2021, the shared use as gallery and social welfare office in the rooms of Galerie Wedding will come to an end. 

After 1.5 years of split use – social welfare office in the morning and gallery in the afternoon – we are happy to invite our audience and artists back into the gallery. 

After a summer with many dynamic performances outside, we are happy to have a place for the artists and the audience inside the gallery again. 

The gallery will celebrate the reopening with a programme by artist and co-curator of Galerie Wedding, Isabel Lewis. Lewis has been a key partner in shaping the exhibitions in 2021. „A Movement Research Center“, which she set up and conceived with Solvej Ovesen, now expands as a spatial as well as painterly embrace of the entire exhibition space. The upcoming exhibition INTIM/E will be designed by Isabel Lewis and artist Dirk Bell, creating a space for open mural painting, live interviews, community, exchange, choreographed encounters and ceremonies at Galerie Wedding. The JUICE: Language Futures programme by Isabel Lewis practices new formats of the artist talk with Nora Turato, nora chipaumire and Branden Jacobs-Jenkins in three conversational situations.

The team at Galerie Wedding welcomes the news of the return of its space with great relief and thanks all the artists involved for their commitment and creativity, perseverance, improvisational talent and collaboration in developing alternative formats over the last 1.5 years of shared use. Without you and our new and old audiences, we could not have continued. Exhibitions and events have been re-planned, alternative formats designed – the gallery will continue to host events in the outdoor space and on the forecourt of the town hall in the future. 

The Social Welfare Office will continue to offer its consultation hours in the Walther Rathenau Hall, right next to Galerie Wedding. 

We are happy to once again offer the entire gallery space to artists and visitors as a communal place for visions, social criticism and artistic freedom.
