Die Galerie Wedding lädt alle herzlich dazu ein, die neue Ausstellung »Are my hands clean?« von Rajkamal Kahlon und das Ende des ersten Jahres des zweijährigen Ausstellungsprogramms »SoS (Soft Solidarity)« mit Musik von Lamin Fofana zu feiern.
Lamin Fofana ist ein Künstler und Musikproduzent aus Sierra Leone, der in Berlin lebt und arbeitet. Seine Musik wurde als mehr als eine Hörerfahrung beschrieben – „es ist ein Mittel zum Verstehen und Beschäftigen mit Ideen von Identität, Migration, Vertreibung und Rasse durch ein künstlerisches Medium“ (Eoin Murray, DJ Mag). Fofanas abstrakter Techno-Sound fügt Kahlons komplexem Werk, das in »Are my hands clean?« in der Galerie Wedding präsentiert wird, eine weitere Ebene hinzu.
Rajkamal Kahlon beschäftigt sich in ihrem Werk mit einem Umgang mit Geschichte aus postkolonialer Perspektive. Die Künstlerin fordert Zeugnisse der Vergangenheit heraus, vor allem Sprache und Bilder. Sie unterzieht sie einem Perspektivwechsel und versucht dabei ein Bewusstsein für die jeweiligen Entstehungskontexte zu erzeugen. Kahlon interessiert, wie Bildern aus Archiven, die wir (re)produzieren und konsumieren, Hierarchien und Machtstrukturen eingeschrieben sind. Mit ihren Übermalungen und bildnerischen Transformationen untersucht die Künstlerin welche identitätsstiftenden und politischen Implikationen mit solchen inszenierten Abbildungen verbunden sind.

Galerie Wedding invites everyone to a night of celebrating the new exhibition »Are my hands clean?« by Rajkamal Kahlon and the end of the first year of the two-year exhibition programm »SoS (Soft Solidarity)« with the music of Lamin Fofana.
Lamin Fofana is a Sierra Leonean artist and music producer based in Berlin. His work has been described as »more than a listening experience – it’s a means of understanding and engaging with ideas of identity, migration, displacement and race through an artistic medium« (Eoin Murray, DJ Mag). Lamin Fofana’s abstract techno sound adds another layer to Rajkamal Kahlon’s complex body of work presented in »Are my hands clean?« at Galerie Wedding.
In her work, Rajkamal Kahlon deals with history from a postcolonial perspective. The artist challenges testimonies from the past, especially language and images. She subjects them to a change of perspective, trying to create an awareness of the respective contexts in which they were created. Kahlon is interested how hierarchies and power structures are inscribed in images from archives that we (re)produce and consume. With her overpaintings and pictorial transformations, the artist examines which identity-creating and political implications are associated with such staged images.
