Am 26. Oktober 2017 findet um 19 Uhr eine Dialog zwischen der Künstlerin Mariana Castillo Deball und der Evolutionsbiologin Gabriela Aguileta in Englisch, begleitet von einem Livepeset von Coco Maria

Mariana Castillo Deball schuf eigens für die Galerie Wedding eine Installation mit dem Titel Pleasures of Association, and Poissons, such as Love‑, in der sie die biologische und paläontologische Sichtweise auf die evolutionäre Entwicklung des Wirbeltieres vom Fisch zum Vogel verhandelt und schließlich ihre eigene Methode der Darstellung findet. In dem Gespräch zwischen Mariana Castillo Deball und Gabriela Aguileta wird es um gegenwärtige Ansätze des Verstehens und der Repräsentation der zeitlichen Evolution von Organismen gehen. Im Fokus stehen Verfahren, welche auf grafischen Methoden basieren und darauf abzielen, die Komplexität der zugrundeliegenden Evolution biologischer Moleküle darzustellen. Darüber hinaus wird sich die Diskussion um die Schwierigkeit drehen, morphologische und fossile Daten in molekulare Informationen zu integrieren. Das Gespräch wird in Englisch stattfinden.
Begleitet wird der Abend von einem Liveset von Coco Maria. Aus dem Norden Mexikos und bringt sie klassische und funkige Platten aus Kolumbien, Brasilien und Peru nach Berlin. Ein Mix aus Boogie, Funk und Cumbia und ihrer grenzenlosen Energie wird die Räume der Galerie Wedding füllen. Sie gehört zum Kreyol Collective und hat eine monatliche Radiosendung mit dem Titel „Ich träume von Piranhas“ im Cashmere Radio.

Mariana Castillo Deball created the installation titled Pleasures of Association, and Poissons, such as Love‑ especially for Galerie Wedding. Finding her own method of representation she is negotiating the biological und paläontological perspective on the evolutionary process of the vertebrates from fish to bird. Gabriela Aguileta will be talking with Mariana Castillo about current approaches to understanding and representing the evolution of organisms through time based on graphic methods that aim to capture the complexity of the underlying evolution of biological molecules. The discussion will also revolve around the difficulty of incorporating and reconciling morphological and fossil data with molecular information. The conversation will take place in English.
Coco Maria is a DJ from the north of Mexico and is shaking down the Berlin scene with her classy and funky record collection mainly from Colombia, Brazil and Peru. Her upbeat selection of boogie, funk and cumbia mixed with her unconditioned energy behind the decks will fill the space at Galerie Wedding. She is part of the Kreyol Collective and Cashmere Radio, where she hosts a monthly radio show called „I dream of Piranhas“.

Mariana Castillo Deball lebt und arbeitet in Berlin und Mexiko Stadt. Ihre Arbeit erstreckt sich über die Medien der Installation, Skulptur, Fotografie und Zeichnung. Sie erforscht die ideologisch konstruierten Bedingungen, unter denen Artefakte in der heutigen Kultur erscheinen. Castillo Deballs Herangehensweise ist kaleidoskopische, da sie Informationen aus verschiedenen Disziplinen wie Archäologie und Wissenschaft zusammenführt und so durch Forschung und Zusammenarbeit neue Werke schafft, die aus der Kollision und Rekombination dieser verschiedenen Sprachen entstehen. Castillo Deball hatte Einzelausstellungen im Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Oaxaca, Mexiko (2015), Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin, Deutschland (2014); CCA, Glasgow, Großbritannien (2013); Chisenhale Gallery, London, Großbritannien (2013); Museo Experimentelles El Eco, Mexiko-Stadt, Mexiko (2011); und Museum der lateinamerikanischen Kunst, Long Beach, USA (2010). Zu den Gruppenausstellungen gehören die 8. Berliner Biennale, Berlin, Deutschland (2014); Documenta 13, Kassel, Deutschland (2013); und 54. Venedig Biennale, Venedig, Italien (2011). *** Mariana Castillo Deball lives and works in Berlin (Germany) and Mexico City. She works in installation, sculpture, photography and drawing, exploring the ideologically constructed conditions under which artefacts appear in today’s culture. She takes on a kaleidoscopic approach to her work, culling information from various disciplines such as archaeology and science, and through research and collaboration, creating works that arise from the collision and recombination of these different languages. Solo exhibitions of her work have been held at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Oaxaca, México (2015), Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin, Germany (2014); CCA, Glasgow, UK (2013); Chisenhale Gallery, London, UK (2013); Museo Experimental El Eco, Mexico City, Mexico (2011); and Museum of Latin American Art, Long Beach, USA (2010). Gabriela Aguileta ist eine Evolutionsbiologe, die an der Verwendung von Phylogenetik, Statistik und Bioinformatik interessiert ist, um adaptive Veränderungen in Organismen zu untersuchen. Ihre Studien reichen von der molekularen Ebene der Sequenzentwicklung im Rahmen der vergleichenden und integrativen Genomik bis hin zu metabolischen Regulation und Ökologie. Seit kurzem interessiert sie sich für die Integration verschiedener Datentypen aus Epigenetik und Metabolomik, um die Transkriptionsregulation von Stoffwechselprozessen zu untersuchen. *** Gabriela Aguileta is an evolutionary biologist interested in the use phylogenetics, statistics, and bioinformatics to study adaptive changes in organisms. Her studies range from the molecular level of sequence evolution, under the framework of comparative and integrative genomics, up to the level of metabolic regulation and ecology. She has recently become interested in the integration of different data types issuing from epigenetics and metabolomics to study the transcriptional regulation of metabolic processes.
