Das Gespenst des Populismus geht in Europa um. Es ist ein Populismus der guten Ratschläge und der autoritären Sorge um die Unterdrückten. Gleichheit ist ein kommunistischer Traum, während Produktivität eine kapitalistische Forderung ist. Die Menschen arbeiten, produzieren und konkurrieren. Wer hat heute noch Zeit für eine Revolution? Wer für (Selbst-)Pflege? Wer kann von zu Hause aus arbeiten? Und wer kümmert sich um den Haushalt? Wer kann die Welt verändern? Und wer räumt nach der Revolution auf?

Im Rahmen der Ausstellung »Grounded Outer Space People« hat Anton Kats verschiedene Ideen des Kosmismus und die russische Kolonialisierung des Weltraums durch u.a. das Raumfahrtprogramm »Vostok 1-6« kritisch untersucht.
Auf der großen orangefarbigen Wand in der Galerie Wedding sieht man unter anderen die Russin Valentina Tereschkowa, eine Antiheldin, die in einem Probesessel für ihre erste Reise als Kosmonautin im Weltall (1964) übt – »Valentina Tereshkova preparing for the flight«. Nach ihrer Rückkehr auf die Erde wurde Tereschkowa zu einer politischen Schlüsselfigur in Russland. Sie ist immer noch ein sehr aktives reaktionäres Mitglied von Putins Partei »Unser Russland«. Ihre Rolle in der Politik ist speziell darauf ausgerichtet, die verrücktesten Vorschläge einzubringen, wie z. B. die unbegrenzte Verlängerung von Putins Amtszeit als Präsident. Die großen Wandzeichnungen im Hauptausstellungsraum zeigen also die Vorbereitungen für ihre Reise (auf der rechten Wand) und ihre Landung (auf der linken Wand).
»Public Transport Library proposal in the U6 subway«
Die »Transmigration Library« befindet sich in ständigem Wandel. Ihre Iteration in der Galerie Wedding war ein Vorschlag, eine Bibliothek in der U-Bahn zu schaffen. Ein transitorischer Ort, an dem sich die Menschen mit Literatur auseinandersetzen können, die sich mit verschiedenen Übergangszuständen befasst.
Die Wandzeichungen waren Teil der Ausstellung »Grounded Outer Space People« (14.10. bis 19.11. 2022) in der Galerie Wedding.

The specter of populism is haunting Europe. It is a populism of good advice and authoritarian concern for the oppressed. Equality is a communist dream, while productivity is a capitalist demand. The people work, produce and compete. Who has time for revolution today? Who for (self-)care? Who can work from home? And who takes care of the household? Who can change the world? And who will clean up after the revolution?

As part of the exhibition »Grounded Outer Space People« Anton Kats has critically examined different ideas of Cosmism and the Russian colonialization of the outer space through their space travel program »Vostok 1-6«. On the large orange wall in the Galerie Wedding, one sees, among others, the Russian Valentina Tereshkova, an anti-heroine, practicing in a rehearsal chair for her first journey as a cosmonaut in space (1964), »Valentina Tereshkova preparing for the flight«. After her return to Earth, Tereshkova became a key political figure in Russia. She is still a very active reactionary member of Putin’s »Our Russia« party. Her role in politics is specifically to bring in the most insane proposals, such as extending Putin’s term as president indefinitely. Thus, the large wall drawings in the main exhibition space show the preparations for her trip (on the right wall) and her landing (on the left wall).

The »Transmigration Library« is in constant transition. Its iteration in Galerie Wedding is a proposal to make a library on the subway train. A transitory place where people can engage with the literature that addresses different transitional states.

Ania Nowaks (*1983 in Krakau, Polen) choreografische Praxis nähert sich der Verletzlichkeit und dem Begehren als Mittel, um sich neu vorzustellen, was Körper und Sprache leisten können und was nicht. Sie entwickelt Formate wie Live- und Videoperformance, Installation und Text. In ihrer Praxis beschäftigt sich Nowak mit den Körpern in ihrer nichtlinearen Gefühls- und Denkfähigkeit, um die Schwierigkeiten von Begleitung und Fürsorge in Zeiten einer ständigen Krise zu bewältigen. Nowaks Arbeit versucht, die Begriffe Unordnung, Vergnügen, Krankheit, Intimität, Schmerz, Sexualität, Klasse und Zugänglichkeit als Orte eines binären, freien Lebens neu zu definieren. Sie arbeitet mit alternativen Bildungsprogrammen in Osteuropa zusammen, wie der Kem School in Warschau und der School of Kindness in Sofia. Ihre Arbeiten wurden im HAU Hebbel am Ufer, in der Berlinischen Galerie, der Akademie der Künste und den Sophiensæle in Berlin, im Nowy Teatr Warschau, im La Casa Encendida Madrid, bei der Baltic Triennial im CAC Vilnius, im Q21 Wien und im M HKA Antwerpen u.a. gezeigt. She develops formats such as live and video performance, installation and text. In her practice Nowak engages with bodies in their nonlinear feeling and thinking capacity to tackle the difficulties of companionship and care in times of a perpetual crisis. Nowak’s work attempts to reimagine the notions of disorder, pleasure, disease, intimacy, pain, sexuality, class and accessibility as sites of binary free living. She collaborates with alternative educational programs in Eastern Europe, such as Kem School in Warsaw and the School of Kindness in Sofia. Anton Kats ist ein Künstler, Musiker und Tänzer aus Kherson, Ukraine. Antons künstlerische Praxis entspringt informellen, alltäglichen Beziehungen in einem lebendigen Viertel seiner Heimatstadt und wird ergänzt durch die Notwendigkeit und Pragmatik der Selbstlegalisierung in Europa durch den Eintritt in formale Bildungseinrichtungen. Seine Arbeit umfasst gleichermaßen Installationen, Performances, Filme und Skulpturen, offene Bildungsprogramme, Musik, Radio und Klang-Interventionen, die durch die Innovation konkreter Hör- und Radiokonzepte in einem Kunstkontext entwickelt wurden. Kats schlägt die Figur des Künstlers als denjenigen vor, der sich mit den Problemen auseinandersetzt, die sich aus der Entwicklung der Werke ergeben, wobei er die Kunstpraxis als einen legitimen Ort der kritischen Untersuchung betrachtet. Kats schloss sein Studium mit einer praxisbezogenen Promotion an der Goldsmiths University of London ab und entwickelt regelmäßig experimentelle Lernorte und Curricula an Universitäten in aller Welt. Seine Arbeiten wurden unter anderem bei SAVVY Contemporary, Serpentine Galleries, Tate Modern, Tate Britain, Victoria and Albert Museum, Roskilde Festival, Showroom Gallery, Bergen Kunsthall, Kochi Muziris Biennale, Haus der Kulturen der Welt und auf der documenta14 in Athen und Kassel ausgestellt und aufgeführt. www.antonkats.net *** Anton Kats is an artist, musician, and dancer from Kherson, Ukraine. Anton’spractice derives from informal everyday relationships within a vibrant neighborhood of his hometown and is complemented by the necessity andpragmatics of self-legalization in Europe via entering formal institutions of education. His work equally embraces installations, performances, films and sculptures, public and learning programs, music, radio, and sonic interventions developed through the innovation of concrete listening and radio narrowcast concepts in a fine art context. Kats suggests the figure of the artist as the one addressing the problematics that arise through the development of the works, taking art practice as a legitimate site of critical inquiry. Kats finalized his studies through a practice-based Ph.D. at Goldsmiths, University of London, and is regularly developing experimental learning sites and curricula at universities around the world.
